Pasta makers are great kitchen tools that help an individual create great-tasting pasta from scratch. Ranging from ravioli to fettuccini, any fresh pasta can be made using pasta makers. Pasta makers are available in both electric and manual models. Each unit comes with different features and is priced accordingly. There are pasta makers that come with pasta extruders. These extruders allow the users to create different pasta shapes like penne.
The most common type of pasta makers used by individuals is the hand-cranked manual pasta machine. This machine allows the user to create pasta of their desired thickness.
How to Make Pasta
If you had just purchased your very own pasta machine, here’s how to make pasta:
1.) Secure the pasta machine on your table or countertop using the included clamp. Once your machine is set-up, you can begin making your pasta dough.
2.) To make the dough, you’ll need to combine 2 cups and 2 tablespoons of flour (all-purpose), 1 tablespoon milk, 3 eggs, ¼ salt and 1 teaspoon olive oil. You can mix the ingredients by hand in a large bowl but you can also use a food processor for convenience. Mix the dough until it resembles a ball.
3.) Place some flour on your working surface and place the dough. Flatten it slightly and divide into 4 balls. Depending on how many guests you are having for dinner, you can wrap the remaining 3 balls in plastic wrap and place them into the freezer for future use.
4.) Grabbing the pasta dough, feed it into the pasta machine. Don’t forget to set the machine at its widest setting. You can continue to feed the dough into the machine until the desired thickness is achieved.
5.) Reducing the setting of the machine, feed the dough strip two to three times. Let the dough sit for 8 to 10 minutes until the dough is a bit dry.
6.) If your pasta machine doesn’t have built-in cutter, you should attach one at this point. Insert the pasta dough and separate the pasta as it emerges out of the machine.
7.) Your homemade pasta can be cooked immediately. If not, you can also dry and store it as gifts or for future use. Store the pasta in a secure, airtight container up to 3 to 5 days.
